Welcome to the Marton Community Centre, a vibrant space dedicated to bringing our community together, fostering connections, and supporting local activities.

Our Centre is at the heart of the community, run by a dedicated volunteer-led committee of 10 members who are passionate about maintaining and improving this valuable local resource.

The committee meets monthly to discuss the Centre's future, ensuring it remains a vibrant and welcoming space for all. These meetings allow us to plan activities, events, and improvements that support the needs of our community.

Each year, we hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM), open to everyone. It’s an opportunity for the community to learn more about our work, share ideas, and have a say in the Centre’s future. Details about the AGM, including the date and time, will be updated on our home page once confirmed.

Thank you for supporting Marton Community Centre – we look forward to seeing you at one of our events or meetings soon!

About Us

Marton Community Centre History

The original Cypress Road Community Centre building—a portacabin-style facility—served our neighborhood for nearly 50 years, becoming a cherished hub for generations. However, as time passed, the building’s structure could no longer meet the demands of our growing community. Recognizing the need for a modern, accessible space, our dedicated management committee took on the task of building a new, purpose-driven community center.

In partnership with Middlesbrough Council, and with the invaluable

support of community fundraising and generous grants—including a

£100,000 Council grant and a £92,000 National Lottery grant—we

successfully raised over £200,000. This funding allowed us to replace

the ageing structure with a state-of-the-art, ready-to-assemble

building. Our new center is a testament to the community’s resilience

and dedication, built with durable materials that reflect advancements

in modern construction.

Today, Marton Community Centre continues to be a welcoming, inclusive space for everyone. Whether you’re here for social gatherings, local events, or community programs, our mission remains the same: to support and uplift the Marton community by providing a facility where connections are made, traditions thrive, and new memories are built.

This lottery funded mural was painted circa 2002 by the Marton Community Junior Youth Club children under the guidance of Ms. Paula Mack a local artist and Cllr Dorothy Davidson, youth club leader.

The mural celebrates Captain James Cook, born in a small cottage in Stewart Park, Marton.

From his humble beginnings, Captain James Cook became the world's most famous navigator.

The mural shows Stewart Park's Glass House, Marton Hall, Marton Lodge and the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum where Cook's many achievements are recorded and celebrated.

Middlesbrough's residents are extremely proud of the fact that Captain James Cook was born in Marton and that his legacy continues to inspire local children and youths around the world.

In 2019 the mural was “repainted” by members of Crafty Capers, a weekly craft group that use the Community Centre.
